. Apple's Greg Joswiak talks design, Steve Jobs as first Apple v. Samsung witness. By Roger Fingas. Tuesday, May 15, 01 41 PT. The witness called at the starting of Apple v. Samsung damages trial on Tuesday was marketing VP Greg Joswiak. Design was. something that Steve had created in DNA of the company, Joswiak said in iPods, Powerbooks, with the message that design was critical even before iPhone's 2007 debut... We were really risking everything that was making Apple at the time, Joswiak said about the iPhone.. We really were betting Apple's in the trial is to convince defendant that Samsung should afford $1 billion in damages for infringed iPhone design patents. Samsung, has momentum from U.S. Supreme Court ruling in 2016, which said it was possible to force company to afford the total income from system when only few categories were infringing. Samsung has contrasted Apple's logic to paying the total income from car for running cupholder.. The case in question dates back to 2011, and originally resulted in $1 billion verdict in Apple's favor. That sum dropped many years in following court actions though, and there's Samsung will borrow even less if it can make reason at the current trial.. Regardless, the results is unlikely to have much impact. Samsung is small earning billions in income every time, and Apple issued suit over have been off shelves for years.
