you may find the volume to be lower than you would want for the setup. Following the release of AirPlay 2, we compared set of stereo paired HomePods connected to Apple TV to theatre surround sound system, and Apple's smart speakers were found to be lacking. During intense fighting scene in Thor Ragnarok, HomePods put out volume of 77 decibels, number for $700 worth of speakers... On Apple TV, go to Settings, then Video & Audio, followed by Surround Sound. Replaying the scene, HomePods achieve much better peak volume of 83 decibels, is three times louder. As comparison, this is similar to the difference in volume between cleaner in the room and standing 30 feet away from the tracks as freight train passes by.. Curious to see how the built-in speakers of the television compared to HomePods, the same test revealed that HomePods were still quieter, even after the volume fix... Of course, the quality from TV speakers was worse, and it seems ridiculous for cheap $350 4K TV to have louder speakers than two HomePods paired in stereo.. Ideally, this is as loud as we wish HomePods would play while watching movie on Apple TV.. Apple does have option in Apple TV settings to reduce loud sounds, and we wish Apple would include option to amplify the sound altogether..
